Hello, I’m Ms Petals and I teach English at BIS. We have been teaching online for the past three weeks and boy oh boy to my surprise our young yr 2 learners have grasped the concept pretty well sometimes even too well for their own good.
Though the lessons may be shorter that’s only because we have put into consideration our young learners screen time.
It’s proven to be quite effective. We give our learners personalized, relevant inspiring and interactive lessons by giving them a sneak preview of what they will learn the next lesson and giving them some research homework on a topic or subject, e-games and a little bit of competition. We imagine the lessons can be a little over stimulating but it’s nothing 5 e-class rules can’t sort out.
Our students are eager to learn but I must say this is also possible because of the endless support we get from our loving anchor parents. Students complete their assignments and submit on time because of our parents endless dedication to our students e-learning journey.
Together e-learning has become a great success.
Farm Animals and Jungle Animals
Greetings to everybody! The nursery children are doing a wonderful job, but nothing compares to having them in my class where we can all learn and have fun.
Students are studying animals in this month's curriculum. What species of animals are found in the jungle? What species of animals inhabit the farm? What do they produce? How do they eat, and what do they sound like? During our interactive online classes, we covered all those questions.
We are learning about animals through hands-on crafts, vibrant powerpoint presentations, tests, math exercises, stories, songs, and energetic games at home. We created magnificent farm and jungle sceneries, including lions emerging from fallen leaves and long snakes, and read a book about it. I can observe that the children in our nursery class pay close attention to the story and can quickly respond to my questions. Children also used Lego sets and building blocks to create fantastic jungle scenes for role-playing with their siblings.
We have been rehearsing the songs "Old McDonald had a farm" and "Waking in the jungle" this month. Learning animal names and motions is really beneficial for kids. Now that they can distinguish between farm and jungle animals and recognize them with ease.
I am amazed by our kids. Despite their youth, they are incredibly committed. Outstanding work, Nursery A.
Aerodynamics of Paper Airplanes
This week in physics, the secondary students did a recap on the topics they learned last week. They practiced some exam styled questions by doing a small quiz. This allows them to become more confident in answering questions and clear up some potential misconceptions. They also learned what to pay attention to when answering questions in order to gain full marks.
In STEAM, the students learned about some aerodynamics of paper airplanes. They watched a video of a special kind of paper plane called the “Tube”, which is a cylindrical shaped plane and generates lift by its rotation. They then try to make the plane and fly it.
During this period of online learning we need to make use of the limited resources available at home. Although it could be challenging for some of us, I am glad to see some students are putting an effort in their learning.
Dynamic Class
During these three weeks of online classes we have continued to work on the Cambridge curriculum units. The idea from the beginning was to try to make dynamic classes in which students can do physical activity through interactive activities and games. With EYFS we have worked on motor skills such as jumping, walking, running, crawling, etc and with the older years we have kept working on more specific exercises focusing on strength, aerobic endurance and flexibility.
It is very important that the students attend physical education at this time, due to the low amount of physical activity that they have and due to screen exposure maintaining the same postures most of the time.
We hope to see everyone soon!
