Our current International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) unit of learning is 'Once Upon A Time’ through which children have been exploring the theme of ‘Language’.

IEYC playful learning experiences in this unit support our children to be:

Adaptable, Collaborators, Internationally Minded, Communicators, Empathetic, Globally, Competent, Ethical Resilient, Respectful and Thinkers.

We just started the Learning Block 1 'The Enormous Turnip', including setting up story scenes, acting out the story, exploring pushes and pulls, making our own vegetables with playdough, buying and selling vegetables at our own market, making a delicious vegetable soup, etc. We seamlessly integrate the same IEYC curriculum into our Chinese classes, incorporating learning and expansion based on the story of "Pulling Carrots."

Similarly, in our Chinese classes, children act out the story of "Pulling Carrots" in Mandarin, engaging in various thematic games and activities such as character recognition, mathematics, mazes, puzzles, and story sequencing.

Furthermore, we conduct activities like the musical rhythm nursery rhyme "Pulling Carrots," scientific activities such as planting radishes and other vegetables, and artistic activities like creative painting where hands transform into carrots. We also design icons on finger carrots representing characters, places, the beginning, the process, and the outcome, teaching storytelling techniques using the "Five Finger Retelling" method.

By collecting photos and videos from parents during the spring break, children are beginning to share their memorable experiences using this storytelling method. This prepares them for upcoming weeks of Chinese picture book sharing and collaborative story creation.
In the following month, we will continue to integrate Chinese elements, exploring more traditional Chinese stories and idiomatic tales, and continuing to discover the fascinating world of language. Through a variety of engaging activities, we hope children will feel the charm of language and strengthen their language expression skills.
Due to editorial oversight, the previous issue of the kindergarten's Chinese classroom special feature had some content omitted. Therefore, we are providing this supplementary feature to offer a more comprehensive understanding of the kindergarten Chinese classroom. Parents can gain insights into the detailed activities and experiences taking place in our Chinese classes.
