At BIS, Art & Design gives learners a platform to express themselves, sparking imagination, creativity and developing transferable skills. Students explore and push boundaries to become reflective, critical and decisive thinkers. They learn how to articulate personal responses to their experiences.
British artist Patrick Brill proposed that “the whole world is an art school—we just need to engage with it in a creative way.” That engagement is particularly transformative during early childhood.
Kids who grow up making and seeing art—be that visual art, music, dance, theater, or poetry—are not only more empowered to express themselves, they also have stronger language, motor, and decision-making skills, and they’re more likely to excel in other school subjects. And, as they grow up, creativity is an asset for prospective jobs—not just in the arts and creative industries, but beyond it.
Britannia International School Art & Design include paintings, drawings, photographs, and mixed media works. The works of art reflect the ambitious imaginations and diversity of the creatives of tomorrow.
Our Art and Design teacher Daisy Dai graduated from New York Film Academy, majoring in photography. She worked as an intern photojournalist for an American charity-Young Men's Christian Association. During this period, her works appeared in Los Angeles Times. After graduation, she worked as a news editor for Hollywood Chinese TV and a freelance photojournalist in Chicago. She interviewed and photographed Hong Lei, the former spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the current Chinese Consul General in Chicago. Daisy has 6 years experience in teaching Art&Design and art portfolio preparation for college admissions. As an artist and a teacher, she usually encourages herself and students to use different materials and colors to create artworks. The most important feature of contemporary art is that there are no limitations or real defining characteristics of it, and it is marked by its diversity of mediums and styles. We get more opportunities to express myself through using many different forms such as photography, installation, performance art.
"Arts learning can increase confidence, concentration, motivation, and teamwork. I wish that I can help every student to improve their creativity skills, express their emotions and give them the opportunity to showcase their talent."
